Solution:
Pre Analysis:
- x and y are integers
- We are asked if \(3x^2+5x+y\) is even number or not
\(⇒x(3x+5)+y\) - The value of \(x(3x+5)\) will always be even no matter the even/odd nature of x
- So, the even/odd nature of \(x(3x+5)+y\) will depend on the even/odd nature of y
Statement 1: \(x=5\)
- Value of x will not help
- Thus, statement 1 alone is not sufficient and we can eliminate options A and D
Statement 2: \(y=4\)
- \(y=4=even\)
- So, \(x(3x+5)+y=even+even=even\)
- Thus, statement 2 alone is sufficient
Hence the right answer is Option B
