Question:

\(4x^2-y^2\) = odd

\(\text{even} - y^2 = \text{odd}\)

\(y^2 = \text{even - odd} = \text{odd}\)

Target Question: Is y = odd?

Statement 1

(1) x is an odd number

Insufficient, as no information is given about y. We can eliminate A and D.

Statement 2

(2) y is an odd number

This matches the target question. Hence, the statement is sufficient.

Question:
is 4x^2 - y^2 = odd number

even - odd =odd

4x^2 = even

we need to find if y^2 is Odd or not.
for y^2 to be odd ,
So we need to find
y=odd ?

(1) x is an odd number

Insufficient, as no information is given about y. NS

(2) y is an odd number

Sufficient
