St1:

b+2 = (3^x+1/3^x)^2 = 3^2x + 1/3^2x + 2
b = 9^x + 1/9^x --> sufficient.

St2:
Doesn't matter. We can't say what's b. Insufficient.

Ans should be A.

A is correct.
