If x/y > 1 and x and y are positive integers, which of the following must be less than 1?
A. (x/y)^1/2
B. (2y)/x
C. x/(2y)
D. (x+y)y

A. Is not less than 1 because if x/y>1 then the root will also be greater than 1. You can assume values of x/y as 2 or 3 and realise root of these values are greater than 1.
B. Since x and y are positive integers we can reciprocal the inequality is given hence y/x<1. Multiplying a positive integer 2 in y/x<1 will lead to 2y/x<2. Hence the inequality can take the value 1.99.
C. x/2y>0.5
D. x/y>1
adding 1 on both sides
(x+y)/y>2
Multiple by POSITIVE INTEGER y on both sides
x+y>y
xy+y^2>y^2
Any postive integer's square is greater than or equal to 1
E. take reciprocal it is less than 1

Since there is a square root in the answer choices, use it as a hint to take x to be 9 and y to be 4.
