Its D.

For statement 2, you can use the determinant method to find the area of the triangle.

Indeed by the determinant method we can solve using statement 2 as well (a google search will give the formula)

I however doubt if the GMAT ever tests this aspect!!

If \((x_1, y_1)\), \((x_2, y_2)\) and \((x_3, y_3)\) are three vertices of a triangle ABC, what is the area of the triangle ABC?


(1) \(x_1 = -2\), \(x_2 = -3\), \(x_3 = 4\), \(y_1 = 3\), \(y_2=-1\), \(y_3=-5\)

(2) \(x_1*y_2=2\), \(x_2*y_3=15\), \(x_3*y_1=12\), \(x_3*y_2=-4\), \(x_1*y_3=10\) and \(x_2*y_1=-9\)

Bunuel, need your help to understand why the answer is D. I see there are 6 variables and 6 equations, but unless these equations are solvable we can't conclude D. Also, there is always an efficient way to look at GMAT problems - guide us please!
