Product of a negative number with another number can be positive ONLY if the other number is also negative. (because if other number is 0, product will be 0 and if other number is positive, product will be negative)

(1) since product of y and z is positive and z is negative, y also must be negative. So y cannot be greater than 0. We get NO as our answer. Sufficient.

(2) here also product of y and z is positive, so y cannot be greater than 0. NO as our answer. Sufficient.

Hence D answer

Statement 1 : if z is negative then y has to be negative . Answer No. Sufficient

Same with statement two.
