What a bizarre situation - I'm terribly sorry that you had to go through this ordeal.

The best case scenario is to retake the exam and no even bother with this T issue. If you place lower than your current score, the T should be addressed in your optional essay. That is entirely fair game. I would just keep the explanation simple and brief. Reassure them that the T designation has no real impact on your score, it's just a technicality that GMAC used to address this very unusual situation.

In general, you should be fine. I think a 710 "T" will not truly impact your candidacy. So, instead, focus on the next GMAT attempt so this is hopefully a moot issue. If you don't meet your goal of a 730+, come back to us so we can strategize accordingly.

Good luck,

Hi! Thanks for adding your thoughts, really appreciate it! It is indeed a bizarre issue and its extremely frustrating that they won't address it in an ethical manner.
Just a clarification here - The score that I was trying to cancel was a 690 (45Q, 39V, IR8, AWA5) and they left it up to me to either opt to show a 'T' or leave my 690 in there. Would you suggest I go for the 'T'? Given that I'll have to retake anyway, I just want to ensure I choose the better out of two terrible options.

Sorry, but can you clarify? Your options are either a 690T or a 690? Or is it a 710 or a T? Also, how timely is this decision?

So I scored a 690 last month and my options are to choose from a 690 or a 'T'. I have to provide a response ASAP.

The mention of 710 was to denote a possible ceiling in case I'm unable to score 730+ later. I can see why that might have been confusing. Apologies for that!

No problem. Thank you for clarifying.

Keep the 690 (without the T). Then, really zero in on the second attempt. If you end up doing better, all of this will probably not matter in the end.

To be safe, you can address this in the optional essay available to you in each application. Keep the explanation short and factual. This is not the type of situation that will have any considerable impact on your overall application.

Good luck!
