Hey Somnium

Welcome to GMATClub.

This Quant score of Q41 definitely could be an aberration(since you scored
a Q48 in every test before the exam). To understand what went wrong, you should
order the ESR to help you understand what the main problem was?

You could also check these links for more GMAT Quant related information
1. GMATClub Quantitative Mega-Thread
2. ALL YOU NEED FOR QUANT ! ! !
3. PS Directory by Topic and Difficulty
4. DS Directory by Topic and Difficulty
5. Q44 -> Q50
6. Timing strategies

The third and fourth links are for practice only. I would recommend you
to read the 5th link specifically, as it will help you understand what you
need to do to bump up your score. With a quant score of Q50 and your
current Verbal score, you should be looking at a score in excess of 700.

Hope this helps you!

just a small correction : I scored 43 in quant, not 41 ;) haha it's still horrible though obviously
I actually purchased the ESR, but I think it's not available yet.. I will post here the stats as soon as I get them. Btw, how much time on average does it take for the ESR to be available?

Sorry about that, Somnium. Made the necessary change in the original post
IMO, GMAT Quant is the easiest thing to improve as far as the GMAT is concerned :)

Hi Somnium,

Many Test Takers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort to score higher yet. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. If you can answer a few questions, then we should be able to figure this out:

When you took your CATs:
1) How did you score on EACH CAT (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for each?)?
2) Did you take the ENTIRE CAT each time (including the Essay and IR sections)?
3) Did you take them at home?
4) Did you take them at the same time of day as when you took your Official GMAT?
5) Did you ever do ANYTHING during your CATs that you couldn't do on Test Day (pause the CAT, skip sections, take longer breaks, etc.)?
6) Did you ever take a CAT more than once? Had you seen any of the questions BEFORE (re: on a prior CAT, in an online forum or in a practice set)?

Hi,
I recently started studying for a gmat, as I posted here https://gmatclub.com/forum/best-way-to-prepare-in-2-weeks-266858.html
After around a couple~ of weeks of studying, most of which focused on practicing gmatclub quant questions and almost no study of verbal at all aside from going through the Manhattan Sc guide and a bit OG, I took the GMAT today, and scored a low 670 score(Q43, V39). What came to me as a shock was the Quant, in which I seemed to score around 48 in simulations(mostly just because I had no time left, so I guess timing is an issue as well), and I come from a scientific background, so I'm speechless as to this fall.
I obviously need to work on the quant. My goal is at least 48 in quant, and at least 710~ overall, since I want to apply to schools such as insead, london business school, columbia.

My study plan was mostly practicing gmatclub quant questions. But either I didn't study for enough time, or my study plan was wrong through and through.
Could you please advise me how should I best prepare for the second try? What should I focus on? What resources?

Thank you

Hi, Just received my ESR, I'm editing my post with the stats. It seems that PS was my weakest point in the GMAT, for some inexplicable reason...
ESR : https://imgur.com/a/XCzKKlG

Based on this, what do you think should be my plan now in order to squeeze at least 710-720 ?

regarding your questions:
1. I was scoring mostly 47 in quant, and around 35 in verbal in a few CATs. Once I actually got 43.. but I wasn't really taking it "seriously", I was mostly wasting the CAT for the questions
2. I haven't done any Essay, nor IR in any of the CATs. At all. My first take of these sections was practically on the real test itself.
3. home, yes.
4. no, I took them a fews days prior.
5. I skipped the Verbal sections many times, just to see the score on quant. I also always skipped the IR and AWA.
6. Negative. I haven't taken any CAT more than once.
