In 1997, the revenue was by x% greater than in 1996.
In 1998, the revenue was by x% smaller than in 1997.
In 1998, the revenue was by 9% smaller than in 1996.

What is x ?

Let A be the revenue in 1996
from fact 1, we have : in 1997: revenue is : A(1+x) ( sorry, i eliminate the % for convenience)
from fact 3, we have : in 1998 : revenue is : A ( 1-0.09)
from fact 2, we have : [A (1+x) - A ( 1-0.09)]/ [A ( 1+x)] = x
---> x+0.09= x ( 1+x) ----> x^2=0.09 ---> x= 0.03 or 30%

Splendid! Splendid!

The OA is 30%.

x^2/100=9...solve for x=30...picked 100 as the base for the calc...so the net change is 9...btw a number increased by x and then decreased by x always results in a decrease...
