In a 200m race, the winner crossed the line 2.5 secs ahead of the second place runner. How far back was the 2nd place runner when the winner crossed the finish line?

1. The winner's time was 22.5 secs.
2. The second place runner ran 8m per sec until the winner crossed the finish line.

Stmt 1: Insufficient, don't know speed of second runner during this first 22.5 sec.

Stmt 2: Insuff, know rate for interval, but no time.

Together, C. rt=d 22.5x8=180, 20 meters back.

(C) Both statements together are sufficient

Statement (1) tells us that runner-up finished in 25 seconds, so his  average  speed was 200/25=8m/s. We don't know whether the rate was constant, so this is not sufficient.

Statement (2) is not sufficient, because the runner-up might have slowed down / picked up the pace during the last 2.5 seconds.

When we combine the statements: the average rate for the race was 8m/s, so it must have been the same during the last 2.5 seconds. => the distance was 2.5*8=20 meters

hmm i was thinking its not humanly possible...but in math world...we'll have to go by numbers... C it is... in the real world A would be sufficient..

Until I saw the second condition I thought the answer was either A or D, since I assumed both the runner run at uniform speed through out..But after looking at the second condition my answer is  C
