We need to find out how many women out of 90 like neither roses nor lilies.
R: women who like roses
L: women who like lilies
T: total number of women (90)
We need to find |R ∪ L|Statement 1: 60% women like at least one type of flower in the garden
|R ∪ L| = 60% of T = 0.6 * 90 = 54
We can subtract it from the total to get the number of women who like neither: Women who like neither = T - |R ∪ L| = 90 - 54 = 36
Statement 2: 40% women like exactly one type of flower in the garden
This means: |R| + |L| - |R ∩ L| = 40% of T = 0.4 * 90 = 36
Statement 2 alone is not sufficient to solve the problem, as it doesn't tell us about the total number of women who like at least one type of flower.
Statement 1 alone is sufficient to answer the question => (A)
R: women who like roses
