Solution

Given:
• In a certain month, a pizzeria sold 75 pizzas in the first week, twice as many in the second week as in the first, two thirds more in the third week than in the first, and three fifths as many in the fourth week as in the second.

To find:
• The average number of pizzas sold by the pizzeria per week.

Approach and Working:
• Number of pizzas sold on the first week = 75
• Number of pizzas sold on the second week = 75 x 2 = 150
• Number of pizzas sold on the first week = 75 + 2/3 x 75 = 75 + 50 = 125
• Number of pizzas sold on the first week = 150 x 3/5 = 90

Total number of pizzas sold in the whole month = (75 + 150 + 125 + 90) = 440
• Therefore, average number of pizzas sold in the month = 440/4 = 110

Hence, the correct answer is option C.

What is the average number, per week, of pizzas sold by the pizzeria?

A. 100
B. 105
C. 110
D. 115
E. 120

75
2*75 = 150
75+((2/3)*75) = 125
3/5 * 150 = 90

75+150+125+90 = 440

440/4 = 110

Hence C is the correct answer.

week 1 = 75
week2 = 150
week 3 = 50+75 = 125
week 4= 90
sum = 440
avg - 440/4
IMO C 110

In a certain month, a pizzeria sold 75 pizzas in the first week, twice as many in the second week as in the first, two thirds more in the third week than in the first, and three fifths as many in the fourth week as in the second. What is the average number, per week, of pizzas sold by the pizzeria?

A. 100
B. 105
C. 110
D. 115
E. 120

We see that the pizzeria sold 150 pizzas in the 2nd week and (1 + 2/3) x 75 = 5/3 x 75 = 125 in the 3rd week and 3/5 x 150 = 90 in the 4th week.

So the average number of pizzas sold per week was:

(75 + 150 + 125 + 90)/4 = 440/4 = 110
