(1) The grapefruit are always packed 5 to a bag and the bags are always packed 8 to a case.
(2) Each case is always 80% full.

(1) The grapefruit are always packed 5 to a bag and the bags are always packed 8 to a case. =====> there will be 5*8 = 40 grapefruits in each case ......... Sufficient
(2) Each case is always 80% full. ....... IN Sufficient ...... as then the # grapefruits in each case will depend on the capacity of the case. If capacity 10grapefruits in each case or else when capacity 50....grapefruits in each case.... and so on.
Hence Ans A.­

In a certain packinghouse, grapefruit are packed in bags and the bags are packed in cases. How many grapefruit are in each case that is packed?
Question: How many grapefruit are in Each Case...?
(1) The grapefruit are always packed 5 to a bag and the bags are always packed 8 to a case.
5 grapefruit to a bag -> 8 bags per case = 8*5 = 40 grapefruit to a case, regardless how many cases. Sufficient
(2) Each case is always 80% full.
can be any number, 4 /5, 80/100, 16/20 Insufficient

Answer is A

Statement 1 is sufficient
5G=1B
8B=1C
so therefore,
40G=8B=1C

Slightly tricky question as there is a dilemma between A and C. But on a closer analysis, it turns out that A in itself is sufficient and the additional information provided in B can only help us in determining the volume/size of the case which is not of much use to us.

Using statement 1 alone, 5 grapefruits in a bag and 8 bags in a case means 8*5=40 grapefruits in a case.

Hence, A.­

Quick DS doubt:

I got that 1 is sufficient, and that 2 is insufficient, but then combining, it also gives us a clearer signal of how much grapefruit is packed in each case more clearly.

I thought, that since the level of the cases being packed is not specified, answer C is correct and not A.

Please help me figure this flaw out as I know I am wrong, but cannot pinpoint the logical flaw as per DS questions

­The question asks "How many grapefruit are in each case that is packed?" (1) says that the grapefruit are always packed 5 to a bag and the bags are always packed 8 to a case. So, this is sufficient to answer the question: each case that is packed has 40 grapefruits.

(2), on the other hand, discusses the capacity of the case, which is irrelevant. How does it matter if the case can hold, say, 100 packs if it always packed 8 to a case?
