In a certain rural town, 250 households contain a dog or a cat or both. How many of these households contain both a dog and a cat if 75 of 250 households do not contain a dog?

(1) 150 of the 250 households do not contain a cat.

(2) The total number of households that contain a cat is 100.

Let’s consider this two set venn diagram.

Where A denotes the CAT only, D denotes Dog only, and b denotes both cats and dogs.

Total = 250

n = No cat and No dogs = 0

we need to find : b ?

if 75 of 250 households do not contain a dog Means - Cat ONLY = A = 75

Statement 1:

(1) 150 of the 250 households do not contain a cat.

As per the statement, D = 150

we know that , A+ x + D = 250

Thus, A+x = 250-150

75+x = 100

x = 25. Hence, Sufficient.

Statement 2:

(2) The total number of households that contain a cat is 100.

A+x = 100

75+x = 100

x = 25. Hence, Sufficient.

Option D.
