For every 2 notebooks sold at a certain shop, the savings is $$2*59 - 99 = 19$$ cents.

Therefore, the amount saved by purchasing 10 of the notebooks in a sale is $$5 * 0.19 = 0.95$$(Option B)

Initial price for 2 notebooks 2*59=118 cents
After discount 99cents
Difference $0.19 for 2 notebooks Difference for 10 notebooks 0.19*5=$0.95

In My Opinion
Ans: B

P.S. if anyone knows a notebook for $0.59 Let me know, I wont claim the discount Board of Directors Status: QA & VA Forum Moderator Joined: 11 Jun 2011 Posts: 4512 Location: India GPA: 3.5 WE: Business Development (Commercial Banking) Re: In a certain shop, notebooks that normally sell for 59 cents each are [#permalink] ### Show Tags 05 Jul 2018, 07:41 Bunuel wrote: In a certain shop, notebooks that normally sell for 59 cents each are on sale at 2 for 99 cents. The actual cost of notebooks is 0.59*100 => $5.90 Cost of the notebooks on discount is 5*99 =>$ 4.95

So, The amount saved is $0.95, ANswer must be (B) _________________ Thanks and Regards Abhishek.... Note :

Normal Rate : 59 cents each

Special Sale = 2 for 99 cents.

No. of Notebooks to purchase = 10

Calculation :

10 * 59 cents = 5.9 $5 *99 cents = 4 . 95$

The amount we can save buying 2 at a time = 5.9 - 4.95 = 0. 95

Solution

Given:
• In a certain shop, normal selling price of a notebook is 59 cents
• However, currently the sale price is 99 cents for 2 notebooks

To find:
• Amount saved by purchasing 10 notebooks at the sale price

Approach and Working:
• Actual price of 10 notebooks = 10 * 59 cents = 590 cents = $5.9 • Sale price of 10 notebooks = 5 * 99 cents = 495 cents =$4.95
• Amount saved by purchasing 10 notebooks at sale price = $5.9 –$4.95 = $0.95 Hence, the correct answer is option B. (B) $0.95 (C)$1.10
(D) $1.15 (E)$2.00

The money saved is:

59 x 10 - 99/2 x 10 = 590 - 495 = 95 cents
