In a certain university, 60 percent of all sophomores are liberal arts majors, 24 percent are education majors, and the rest are majoring in other subjects or have not yet chosen a major. At the university, 55 percent of all sophomores are currently taking a psychology course. If x percent of all sophomores are liberal arts majors who are currently taking a psychology course, what is the least possible value of x?

A 15

B 16

C 31

D 36

E 40

If there were \(100\) sophoromes then we would have \(60\) LAM, \(24\) as EM, \(16\) other

Also \(55\) are taking a psychology course

\(60+55-x =100\)

\(115 -100 =x = 15 \)

Note : When we take \(55 \) we also include the \(16 \) from others. Hence total sophoromes can be represented as :

\(60+55-x =100.\) Where \(x\) is the percentage that take both liberal arts and psychology course.

Ans A

Hope it's clear.

Is it possible to solve with double matrix strategy?

I wouldn't say that this is an ideal candidate for double matrix method.
