In a circuit board factory, all circuit boards that pass a verification process are certified. Every board that fails the verification process is indeed faulty, but 1/8 of those that pass are also faulty.

Total no of circuit boards inspected=1600
64 CBs failed in inspection, so 64nos are indeed faulty.
#boards those are process certified or passed in inspection=1600-64=1536
Given, 1/8 of those that pass are also faulty, So, #additional faulty boards=\(\frac{1536}{8}\)=192

Therefore, total #of faulty circuit boards=#boards indeed faulty+#boards also faulty(addl.)=64+192=256

Ans. (D)

Total number of circuit boards= 1600

No of boards that failed the inspection= 64

.............................passed.....................= 1600-64= 1536

Additional faulty boards= \(\frac{1536}{8}\)= 192

Total number of faulty boards= 192+64= 256

Answer: D.

\(64 + \frac{1}{8}(1600 - 64)\)

= 256, Answer must be (D)

Since 64 of the circuit boards fail inspection, 1,600 - 64 = 1,536 circuit boards pass inspection. However, of these 1,536 circuit boards, ⅛ of them, i.e., ⅛ x 1,536 = 192, are actually faulty, too. Therefore, a total of 64 + 192 = 256 circuit boards are faulty.

Answer: D
