In a class, the maximum score of a student is 80, and the minimum score of a student is 65. If Kevin's score is neither the maximum nor the minimum, is Kevin's score closer to the minimum score?

If the difference between the actual score and minimum score is less than of actual score and maximum score, then actual score is closer to minimum score.

Given:
• The maximum score of a student in a class is 80
• The minimum score of a student in a class is 65
• Kevin’s score is neither maximum nor minimum
To find:
• Is Kevin’s score closer to the minimum score?
Analysing Statement 1
• As per the information provided in Statement 1, Kevin’s score is greater than 70
- o If Kevin’s score is greater than 70, then it can be 71 or 79
o If Kevin’s score is 71, then it is closer to minimum score, whereas if it is 79, then it is closer to maximum score
Hence, statement 1 is not sufficient to answer
Analysing Statement 2
• As per the information provided in Statement 2, The difference between the minimum score and Kevin's score is less than the difference between the maximum score and his score
- o As the difference is less with respect to the minimum score, Kevin’s score must be closer to the minimum score, compared to the maximum score.
Hence, the correct answer is option B.
Answer: B
