We know total n = 23.

Female = 19
Male = 23-19 = 4

Of males 2 wear Black so 4-2 = 2 wear Blue.

We are given total Black = 12, which means 10 females must wear Black to make x + 2 = 12.

Recall total females = 19, so females wearing Blue = 19-10 = 9. Answer C.

Secretaries with blue suits = 23 - 12 = 11
Female secretaries with blue suits = 11 - 2 = 9

We are given that an office has 23 secretaries and 19 of them are female; thus, 4 are male.

Since 2 male secretaries wear blue suits, 2 must wear black suits.

Since 12 secretaries in total wear black suits, 12 - 2 = 10 female secretaries must wear black suits.

Finally, since there are 19 female secretaries, 19 - 10 = 9 must wear blue suits.

Alternate solution:

We are given that an office has 23 secretaries, 12 of whom wear black suits; thus, 11 wear blue suits.

Since 2 male secretaries wear blue suits, 11 - 2 = 9 female secretaries must wear blue suits.

Answer: C
