Average = total score / number of tests

total score = 180 + 150 = 330
50% average = 330 * 0.5 = 165 ( he needs to score this )
He has scored 30% in the first test with 180 marks
so he has already scored 0.3 * 180 = 54
Now He needs to score 165-54 = 111 in the second test.
So the precentage = 111/150 = 74
( 0.74 * 150 = 74 * 1.5 = 74 + 74/2 = 74 + 37 = 111 )

We can create the equation:

0.3(180) + (n/100)(150) ≥ 0.5(330)

54 + 3n/2 ≥ 165

3n/2 ≥ 111

3n ≥ 222

n ≥ 74

Answer: B

An overall average of at least 50% is $$\frac{( 180 + 150 )}{2} = 165$$

Score in paper I is $$\frac{3}{10}*180 = 54$$

So he must score 165 - 54 = 111 in paper II out of 150

So his % score must be $$\frac{111}{150}*100$$ = 74 %, Answer must be (B)
