In a move that surprised many political analysts, Republicans were forced to yield to conservative Christians demanding that they should modify their party platform to reflect public concerns about social issues, including abortion.

I think C would be a better choice here. "A" looks like Republicans are demanding something from the Christians. Also C has better llism "to yield to...... to modify ... to reflect"

Looking for more explanation!!!

A. demanding that they should
B. demanding it to
C. and their demand to
D. who demanded that it
E. who demanded it to

OA a little later

Between C and A.

C leaves the meaning of the sentence ambiguous. With C, Republicans were forced to yield to conservative Christians AND their demand to... The ambiguity stems from their. Did the Repubs yield to conservative Christians and (the Christian's) demands, or to conservative Christians and (their own, Republican) demands?

A makes it clear that it is the former

As previously said, the pronoun "it" makes B,D, and E obsolete.

C has two "their" in sequence, making them ambiguous to which antecedent they are referring to.

We are left with: A, the superior answer.

I picked C. Parallelism " Republicans are forced to yield....and...to modify"

@arzad - Two ‘their’ are confusing. Its not clear that the first ‘their’ refers to the Christians and the second ‘their’ refers to the Republicans. Hence, C is incorrect IMO.

C.

A, as it is, is subjunctive (demanding + bare infinitive) and is therefore incorrect.
B has wrong pronoun - it, which is singular and should be plural.

C is correct though "they" is ambiguous in C. Still best among the choices.

D. Same as B.
E. Same as B.

+1 for A,

in C the first their refers to 'Christians' and the second to 'Republicans '. we can't have that.

A little confusing. Both A and C seem to have errors. What is the OA ?

If given an option between the 2, i will pick A. C changes the intended meaning.

D imo

Although "Republicans" sounds plural, the party as a whole yield to Chritsians' demands. Hence I think "it" works here.
