Let the number of people who own an automobile be x. Then the number of people who don't own an automobile is (120 -x).
(1) In the survey, the number of people who do not own an automobile is 2 times the number who do own an automobile.
=> 120-x = 2x
=>3x = 120
=> x = 40
Statement 1 is Sufficient.
(2) In the survey, the number of people who do not own an automobile is 40 more than the number who do own an automobile.
120-x = x + 40
=> 80 = 2x
or x = 40
Statement 2 is Sufficient.
