In a survey of 150 persons, how many were smokers and drinkers?
(I) 80% of the person surveyed were drinkers
(II) 40% of the smokers were drinkers also

We can have a table as below:

drink no drink total
smoke ? = 0.4x x
no smoke
total 120 30 150

stmnt1 - 80% were drinkers = 80% of 150 = 120 but we don't have any info about smokers. hence insuff

stmnt 2 - We do not know the number of smokers so we can't calculate the number of smokers + drinkers. hence insuff

Taking together we know number of drinkers is 120 and 40% of smokers are drinkers as well but no other detail. Hence E
