In a survey of a certain locality it was found that 80% of the people drink tea and 60 % of the people drink coffee. What percentage of the people drink neither tea nor coffee ?
{Total} = {Tea} + {Coffee} - {Both} + {Neither}
100 = 80 + 60 - {Both} + {Neither}
(1) 50% people drink both coffee and tea --> {Both} = 50, we can substitute above and get {Neither}. Sufficient.
(2) 30% of the people surveyed drink tea but not coffee --> {Tea} - {Both} = 30 --> 80 - {Both} = 30 --> {Both} = 50, we can substitute above and get {Neither}. Sufficient.
Answer: D.

There are 4 areas namely 1,2,3,4
1: Only coffee
2. Coffee and Tea
3. Only Tea
4. Neither
1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = Total sample space or number of people part of the survey
According to question,
Areas (2) + (3) = 80% --- > 80x
Areas (1) + (2) = 60% --- > 60x
Area 4 = Total - [ Area (1) + (2) + (3) ]
Statement 1
Statement 1 50% people drink both coffee and tea.. This gives us Area (2).
Area (1) = 60x - 50x = 10x
Area (3) = 80x - 50x = 30x
Area (2) = 50x
Sum = 90x
Remaining = 10x. So 10% don't like tea or coffee, the neither category.
Statement 2 follows the same route.
Statement 2 30% of the people surveyed drink tea but not coffee.
Hence D.
