In addition to being more expensive than manual research, the compounds identified by machine-based research are often of lower quality than those identified by manual research, which are more likely to become marketable pharmaceutical products.

A. ....
B. machine-based research often identifies compounds that are of lower quality than those identified by
C. machine-based research is lower in quality than those compounds identified by
D. the compounds identified by machine-based research are often lower in quality than
E. compounds identified by machine-based research often had lower quality than those identified by

This SC tests the use of modifier.
What is "more expensive than manual research" must be "machine-based research" ----> B and C stand.

C contains wrong comparison of " machine-based research" to " compounds indentified" ---> out.

B is the correct answer.

My answer is B as well.

The first sentence is modifying research and not compounds....B makes the right comparisons
