Let the total number of lions in the pride be x, and the total number of deer each lion devours be y.

Thus the total number of deer eaten by pride will be xy.

Now, since the total number of deer eaten is 9919,

xy = 9919

Now 9919 has factors 7, 13, 91, 109, 763, 1417 and 9919.

Since 91 is one of the options, let us consider the total number of lions to be 91.

If the total number of lions is 91, the number of deer eaten will be 109.
Since the number of deer eaten is greater than the total number of lions, this option is a possibility.

Since none of the other options is a factor of 9919, the correct answer is 91.

In an African savannah, a pride of lions hunted and ate a certain number of deer over a period of time. Each lion in the pride ate the same number of deer. This number was greater than the total number of lions. If there are at least 5 lions and they ate a total of 9,919 deer, then how many lions can be in the pride?

A. 76
B. 87
C. 91
D. 105
E. None of the above

Well, it certainly isn't A or D.

91*100 + 91*10 = 9100 + 910 = 10010
10010-91 = 9919

Answer choice C.
