In college X, 40 percent of the women and 20 percent of the men are taking courses in mathematics. If 55 percent of the students at college X are women, what percent of all college X students take mathematics courses?

(A) 35

(B) 31

(C) 30

(D) 26

(E) 25

Let there be 100 students in college X.
Since 55% of the class is women, there are 55 women and 45 men in the class respectively.
Total students pursuing Mathematics is \(0.2*45 + 0.4*55 = 9 + 22 = 31\)

Therefore, the total students in college X who take the mathematics course is 31(Option B)

let students = 100
women 55 40% = 22
men 45 20% = 9

22+9 = 31

(B) imo
