70 of x + 38% of (100-x) = 42% (x+100-x) (where x= junior employees)
By solving, we get-
70x+3800−38x=4200
x=400/32=12.5 (b)

In Company X, 70% of the junior employees and 38% of the non-junior employees received a negative performance review. If 42% of Company X employees received a negative performance review, what percent of Company X's employees are junior employees?

(A) 6.25%

(B) 12.5%

(C) 14%

(D) 86%

(E) 87.5%

Use the weighted averages formula discussed here: https://anaprep.com/arithmetic-weighted-averages/

\(\frac{w1}{w2} = \frac{(38 - 42)}{(42 - 70)} = \frac{1}{7}\)

So 1 part are junior and 7 parts are senior which means 1/8 = 12.5% of the company are Junior employees.

Answer (B)

Let x be the percentage of Companys X junior employees.
0.42 = x * 0.7 + (1 - x) * 0.38
0.42 = 0.7x - 0.38x + 0.38
0.04 = 0.32x
x = 0.125 = 12.5%
