Hi Guys,
Please help me solving this sc

In geometry, polygons with up to twelve sides have different given names; however, if the number of sides is greater than twelve, name the polygon by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.

A) if the number of sides is greater than twelve, name the polygon by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
B) if the number of sides is higher than twelve, the polygon is named by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
C) if the number of sides is higher than twelve, name the polygon by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
D) if the number of sides is greater than twelve, the polygon is named by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
E) if the number of sides is higher than twelve, place the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.

Please help me solving this sc

In geometry, polygons with up to twelve sides have different given names; however, if the number of sides is greater than twelve, name the polygon by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.

A) if the number of sides is greater than twelve, name the polygon by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
B) if the number of sides is higher than twelve, the polygon is named by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
C) if the number of sides is higher than twelve, name the polygon by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
D) if the number of sides is greater than twelve, the polygon is named by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.
E) if the number of sides is higher than twelve, place the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons.

Easy D.. greater, not higher and "is named" is better not "name the polygon"

I am confused bet. A and D..
As in D "the polygon is named by placing" seems better.
bt in maths books i beleve it is alws writen like --- "if the number of sides is greater than twelve, name the polygon by placing the suffix "gon" after the number of sides in the polygons."

option A seems like a guideline written in books. So still feel A is also correct.
plz suggest..

"Name the polygon" is an imperative. It's telling you to do something. But the first half of the sentence is informative, not imperative. The constructions aren't parallel.

As an aside, isn't "polygons" at the end of each sentence incorrect? It should be singular: "The polygon is named by placing the suffix '-gon' after the number of sides in the polygon." It's the same in every answer choice, though...

I never seen on the GMAT IF construction(Hypothetical Subjunctive) with Imperative Mood, it's illogical to combine the two in the same sentence and that is the difference between A and D

difference of "greater" and "higher". "greater" is correct usage here. So, between A and D, D seems better.
