Why is (4)(D)....the passage says that
Quote:
Some earthquakes, however, take place hundreds of kilometers down in the Earth’s mantle, where high pressure makes rock so ductile that it flows instead of cracking

Clearly, there are some earthuakes where there are no fractures.

1- C ................. i went for D as well

Passage doesn't talk abt method of predicting earthquakes..

P and S are used for determining how deep the eartquake was..

2-A ...... they say A but the passage clearly say 'focus' though A cannot be ruled out

"Because P and S waves travel at different but fairly constant speeds, the interval between their arrivals increases in proportion to the distance from the earthquake focus, or rupture point.
For most earthquakes, Wadati discovered, the interval was quite short near the epicenter"..

This clearly leads to C.. As you move away from earthquake focus point, the gap between P and S will be longer.. Don't know how A is correct.. In fact A isn't implied in the passage..

3-C - a typical gmat trap -pick most closest
4- D - both are necessary -
5-E this easy
6-A -
