In order for the school to sponsor a senior class trip, a petition must be signed by at least 3/4 of the 147 seniors. What is the least number of signatures that the school needs to sponsor the trip?

A. 112
B. 111
C. 110
D. 37
E. 36

We just have to find closest integer which is to 3/4 of 147 (because 147 is not divisible by 4).

3/4 of 147 = 110.25.
But if petition is signed by only 110 people, then it will be less than the required number. So it must be signed by at least 111 people.

Hence B answer

\(\frac{3}{4}*147 = 110.25\)

Since the number of students can't be in decimals, the school requires 111 students, answer must be (B)
