Narrowed down to either A or C. A looks very wordy...but went for A due to the usage of "that is human and admirable IN their original personalities".

I'll have to go for A. The other choices alter the meaning of the sentence. For example C chages from uncertainty "may have to adapt " to absolute certainty "must adapt". In B, In the original persanality is wrong, the should be plural possesive their inorder to refer to the plural prisoners
