deowl,

you mentioned that:
"A) ... other... except... should be used only one of them. OUT"

Perhaps there is an SC rule that I haven't come across yet, would you mind posting the full rule description so that I may apply it in other similar scenarios? Thx.

As for the question itself, I think the correction answer is C:

a) males and females are trying to modify 'primate species'
b) same as a)
c) removes misplaced modifier error
d) males and females compared to 'human beings'
e) same as d)

I'm pretty weak at SC so these are all just educated guesses for me at the moment... hopefully, in time I'll get better :)

(B) or (D)

In (B), subject 'Males and Females' subject prcedes verb 'tend'

but

'males and females tend to be of the same size and to fight off predators together'

does not make sense.

Where as in (D)

'the males and females of monogamous primate species tend to be of the same size and to fight off predators together'

seems correct.

I will go for (D)

It is definitely not a SC rule, but a simple logic. When you say 'other than' , you imply 'except' and vice versa. I think it pretty obvious.

Now to your objection to B. The "Among species..." modifier modifies "males and females", and I do not see anything wrong with it.
The males and femeles are indeed among the species of monogamous primates, so the usage of modifier is perfectly correct.

I went with D.
A and C - Eliminate. Use of 'Other' and 'Except'
E - 'other males and females of species of' is awkward
B - 'Among species of monogamous...' may convey the meaning that the male of one species and the female of another species (or vice-versa) have the same size and ...etc. It is the male and female of the same species that are of the same size and ....
So that leaves D.

What is the OA?
