It can be easily noticed by drawing that only 2 diagonals are with positive slopes.

Please see the sketch attached.

Please note that it is not necessary to find the total no. of diagonals. But I have calculated the number of diagonals because, it does help in ensuring that no diagonal is left unchecked unintentionally.

Positive slopes must run upwards going right.

1# A to C
2# A to D

(C) is the answer.
