In Seattle, the total rainfall in a certain year was 37 inches. From April to October of that year, the average rainfall was approximately 1.7 inches per month. What was the average rainfall, in inches, for the remaining months of the year?

April to October is 7 months ( we are assuming that April to October is inclusive of both the months). So the total rainfall in those 7 months was Average * No. of months i.e = 1.7*7 = 11.9 inches.
The total rainfall in the remainder of 5 months was total for year minus given seven months i.e 37 - 11.9 = 37 - 12 +0.1 = 25.1 inches
So average for the 5 months was 25.1 / 5 ~ 5
Hence Option (D) is our choice.
