Since the letters represent consecutive integers, we see that w = u + 2 and y = u + 4.
Thus, u + w + y = u + u + 2 + u + 4 = 3u + 6.

In terms of u, the sum u + w + y =

(A) 3u + 2
(B) 3u + 3
(C) 3u + 4
(D) 3u + 5

The value of number increases as we move towards right of the number line.
Here it states that the letters represent consecutive integers.

It clearly states that we need to find the value in terms of u.
Notice, w is 2 equal parts right to u and y is 4 equal parts right to u.

Hence, w = u +2
y = u + 4

u + w + y = u + (u +2) + (u + 4) = 3u +6
