In the 1950’s 60% of treated cancer patients lived at least 5 years after detection of the disease. Now 60 % live at least 7 years after detection. This fact demonstrate that because of improved methods of treatments cancer patients live longer after they contact the disease than cancer patients did in the 1950’s.
Find assumption .
A. In the 50’s only 605 of cancer patients received treatment, whereas now a signif. higher % does .
B. Free medical treatment is more likely to be available now than in 50’s.
C. Detection of cancer does not take place on average significantly earlier in the progression of the disease than it did in 50’s.
D. Physicians now usually predict a longer life for cancer patients after detection than did in 50’s.
E. The number of cancer patients is approximately the same as it was in 50’s.

I'd go for C. We must assume that everything else except the medical treatment is same as it was in the 50's

I think the scope here is the detection of the disease.
There is no concern with Free medical treatement, or the number of cancer and Physicans prediction
If the detection of the cancer takes places earlier in the progression than it took in 1950's, than it can not be proved that patient live today two years more than 50 years before,
The answer is definetly C...
