OFFICIAL EXPLANATION



In the design process, functionality is as important as originality is, and this concept is being taught by design schools throughout the world.


A. as originality is, and this concept is being taught by design schools throughout the world

This answer choice is stylistically flawed. Using the passive form (is being taught) creates redundancy. Since there is another grammatically correct answer choice that does not use the passive form, it is preferable to this one.


B. as originality is, and throughout the world, this concept is being taught by design schools

This answer choice repeats the original Stylistic flaw. Using the passive form (is being taught) creates redundancy. Since there is another grammatically correct answer choice that does not use the passive form, it is preferable to this one.


C. as originality, and design schools teach this concept throughout the world

Although this answer choice eliminates the original Stylistic error by changing the sentence from passive to active, it is stylistically flawed as it omits the verb is from the second half of the Comparative structure.

Since there's another answer choice that corrects the original mistake but preserves the verb is, it is preferable to this one. Look for it!


D. as originality is, and throughout the world design schools teach this concept

This answer choice eliminates the original Stylistic error by changing the sentence from passive to active. It also includes a verb in the second half of the Comparative structure.


E. than originality is, and throughout the world design schools teach this concept

Although this answer choice eliminates the original Stylistic error by changing the sentence from passive to active, it is illogical and grammatically incorrect. As cannot be complemented by than because as indicates a similarity or equality between the two things compared whereas than indicates a difference between them.

What helps us identify this question as a Comparative question as well as identify the mistake is the following Stop Sign: Like, unlike, than, as

Option C looks correct to me.

It's precise and conveys the intended meaning correctly.

Option C looks good to me to.

Can anyone explain why we cannot omit "is" in this case?

one problem I saw with C was " throughout the world" was not precisely before design schools.
"design schools teach this concept throughout the world" is not the same as " throughout the world design schools teach this concept"; this kinda distorts the meaning. in the correct choice "throughout the world" modifies "design schools" but in C, throughout the world modifies "teach"

You have absolutely turned a blind eye to the meaning of the sentence , the sentence conveys the meaning design scchools go teach the world about the importance of orginality , obviously not the point


Being is a huge red flag in the Gmat and lives up to the expectation of happening to be wrong here
Therefore A and B are out

C conveys the wrong meaning

'as much as' is the right idiom
E out

THerefore IMO D
