a AC^2 = AB^2 + BC ^2 = 25 thus AB can have generic value.

b AC + AB = AE + BE meaning AC = 2 AB thus AB = 5/2= 2.5

B it is.

when I tried to rephrase it. I found that if the shape is a square would solve the problem. however, statement 1 said it is rectangular. So no use of the information

The answer is B . But I am a pit confused about #5 in the question stem ? we did not use it right?

We did. How else will you find length of AB.
Look at stmt2:
AC-AE=AB+BE
Add AE to both side
AC-AE+AE=AB+BE+AE
AC=AB+BE+AE
Now from diagram, AE+BE=AB
AC=AB+AB
AC=2AB
AB=1/2AC
We know AC=5
AB=1/2*5=2.5
