Another D.

Had been is Past Perfect Continuous tense. It is used to decribe an action of certain duration in past before another past action occurred. Simple past is correct here.

:oops:

um yeah... d would be better than c, as c perpetuates the error I mentioned. Can you you call up the test center after the test and tell them that on # 32 you actually meant to answer d? :)

– Verb Tense.
B. the Catholic Church continued to

life
– Verb Tense.
C. the Europe that had been Catholic
was still influenced in virtually

Church
– Use of “still” is wrong.
D. Europe was Catholic and the
Church influenced virtually every
phase of human life
E. Europe had been Catholic and the
Church had influenced virtually every
phase of human life
– Verb Tense.

The answer is D.
