Another method:
Let's draw a perpendicular line between parallel lines a and b passing through point O. Angles formed at point O on the that perpendicular line are 65°, 90° - x and 90° - y, the sum of which is 180°.
Now, 65° + 90° - y + 90° - x = 180°
x = 65°
Answer D.
