Since opposite angles are equal we can add x˚ and y˚ to the diagram as follows:
From here, since angles on a line must add to 180°, we can write: x + y + z = 180
Plug in x = 54˚ and y = 72˚ to get: 54 + 72 + z = 180
Simplify the equation: 126 + x = 180
Solve: x = 54
Answer: A
