In the figure shown, what is the value of x?
(1) AD = BD = CD

from the figure we can see that the lines composing the triangle can move, but x is anchored.
Sufficient.
(2) y = 140

the base of the triangle is fixed, but the top can move, in doing so the measurments of x will change

Angle A+ Angle B+ Angle C= 180
X+20°+60°+X+40° = 180
2X+120 = 180
2X = 60
X = 30
(Sufficient)
(2) y = 140
We have no information about the relation between ABD and ACD to draw out the X value.
(Insufficient)
