Given
In this question, we are given that
- • In the first quarter of the year, a certain entrepreneur sold 36 percent of the 75 crafts that she put for sale online.
• In the second quarter of that year, she sold one-fourth of the remaining crafts.
To find
We need to determine
- • The percent decrease from the first quarter to the second in the number of crafts the entrepreneur sold
Approach and Working out
Number of crafts sold in the first quarter = 36% of 75 = 27
- • Remaining crafts = 75 – 27 = 48
Number of crafts sold in the second quarter = ¼ of 48 = 12
- • Value-wise decrease in the number of units sold = 27 – 12 = 15
• Hence, percent decrease in number of units sold = 15/27 x 100 = 55.55%
Thus, option C is the correct answer.

In the first quarter, she sold 0.36 x 75 = 27 crafts and in the second quarter, she sold 0.25 x (75 - 27) = 0.25 x 48 = 12 crafts. Therefore, the percent change from the first quarter to the second quarter is: is:
(12 - 27) / 27 x 100
-15/27 x 100
-5/9 x 100
-55 5/9
That is, the percent decrease is 55 5/9 percent.
Answer: C
