In the first round of a robotics engineering challenge, a team must earn at least 70% of the maximum possible points to qualify for the international stage. After the first round of scoring, the team had earned exactly x points, while the remaining y points were lost due to errors.

Given that a team must score a minimum of 70% of the maximum points to qualify. Also the team scores x and loses out on y (which is 30% of the maximum points)
Since the team did not qualify for the international stage, it means x/y < 7/3.
Also it is given that x+1/y-1 >= 7/3.
To find values of x we need to see that x = 2y + 1/3y.
From the values we can see that if we take y = 12, then x = 24 + 4 = 28. But 28/12 = 7/3 and not less than 7/3. Hence rejected.
If we take y = 16, then x = 32 + 5.3 ~ 37. So we can say that x = 36 (from the options). Now let's check if x+1 / y-1 >= 7/3.
37+1 / 16 - 1 = 38 / 15 = 7.6 /3, which is exactly what we need.
Hence, our answer is x = 36 and y = 16.

(7y-10)/3 < x< 7y/3
Then putting y as 16 (from the options), we get - 34.something < x < 37.something
