In the rectangular coordinate system above, if a point C along line L is chosen to form a triangle with the segment AB, what is the area of triangle ABC?
A. 1
B. 2.5
C. 5
D. 10
E. The area cannot be determined from the given information.

If AB is the base of our triangle, the base is 1. No matter what point C we choose on line L, the perpendicular distance from AB to C will be 5, so that's the height of the triangle, and the area is bh/2 = (1)(5)/2 = 2.5.

Whatever be the point C in line L , altitude will always be 5 units
Thus, Area of the triangle will be\(\frac{5*1}{2} = 2.5\) , ANswer must be (B)
