Length of opposite sides of a parallelogram remain equal. Thus length of BC = AD = 2 unit
C(a,2) + 2 unit parallel to AD = B(a,4)
Therefore, b=4

One way to look at this and not do any math is to use rise/run to your advantage.

Because the lines must be parallel, we can say that for every a, the rise is 2.

If the rise starts at 0,2 then for every a, the rise must be 2 again. So b = 4

Concepts used:
Since ABCD is a parallelogram, opposite sides are parallel.
And lines parallel to each other have same slope.
AB is parallel to CD.
Slope of AB=b-2/a
Slope of CD=2/a
b-2/a=2/a
b=4
