Wouldn't the answer here be C since from 1 be get r can be 3, and for 2, we get -3/3, hence the answer for r is 3, and a is 4
No. Statement (1) does not give r = 3. It only gives a(1 + r) = 16, so many different values of r are possible.

From statement (2), r^4 = 81, so r = 3 or r = -3. Combining with statement (1), both cases still work:

If r = 3, then a = 4 and the fourth term is 108.
If r = -3, then a = -8 and the fourth term is 216.

So the value is not unique, and the answer is E.
