In the triangle above, does AB = BC?

(1) x > y

(2) d > e

if AB=AC, then triangle is an isosceles triangle

1) x>y, then third angle in triangle ABD and ACD will be 90-x and 90-y respectively and these will be not equal as x and y are not equal. So, AB not equal to BC. Sufficient.

2) We know that in an isosceles triangle, the perpendicular bisector divides base into half i.e. if AB were to be equal to BC, then d=e. Since its not, AB not equal to BC. Sufficient.

In triangle BAC, for BA = BC, we can have x =y or d=e, as we can see there is a perpendicular drawn from B to AC.

Stat1: x >y ,then BA not equal to BC. Sufficient

Stat2: d> e, then BA not equal to BC. Sufficient

So, I think D. :)
