In triangle MNO, angle Mis one-half angle N and angle O is 20 degrees more than angle M. How many degrees are in angle O?

A. 40
B. 45
C. 50
D. 55
E. 60

Solution

    • Let us assume that angle O is x°.
    • Now, O is 20 degrees more than the angle M.
      ⟹ Angle M + 20° = x° ⟹ Angle M = x° – 20°
    • And, angle M is one half of angle N
      ⟹ x° – 20° = \(\frac{1}{2}\)*angle N ⟹ angle N = 2x° – 40°
    • Now, in triangle MNO,
      o angle O + angle M + angle N = 180° [ sum of interior angles of a triangle]
      ⟹ x° + x° – 20° + 2x° – 40° = 180° ⟹ 4x° = 240° ⟹ x° = 60°
Thus, the correct answer is Option E.

A. 40
B. 45
C. 50
D. 55

Angle N = x
M = x/2
O = x/2 + 20
2x = 180 -20
x = 80
O is 60.
E is the answer.
